Acupuncture is the practice of using, sterile, single-use needles to promote the flow of Qi throughout the body. Qi (pronounced “Chee”) is often referred to as ‘vital energy’ and flows through the meridians in the body. Disruption in the flow of Qi takes the body out of balance and leads to illness. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine help restore the flow of Qi improving health and vitality.
Acupuncture has been medically accepted throughout Asia for thousands of years. However, the practice is fairly new in the United States. With its rise in popularity several studies have been conducted to understand how it works.
There are three mechanisms that account for a lot of the healing that occurs as the result of receiving acupuncture:
endorphins release that alleviate pain and promote a sense of wellbeing
activating the immune system
